Headway Essex brings the Colour5K to the whole of Essex with its first virtual event!

Headway Essex, the brain injury charity, planned to hold its eighth annual Colour5K at the Ardleigh Showground on Saturday 27 June 2020.  Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, they’ve had to cancel this year’s event which will have a big impact on the income they need to provide their support to adults with acquired brain injury and their families.

Recognising the support there is out there for this popular and fun event and for Headway Essex, they’ve decided to organise their first Virtual Colour5K!

As an avid supporter of the Colour5K, Attwells Solicitors have kindly committed to sponsoring the event for a second year in a row. Managing Partner, Nick Attwell said:

“We are thrilled to be part of the Virtual Colour5K with Headway Essex. Being an integral part of the community is at the heart of the Attwells’ ethos and by working closely with charities, such as Headway Essex, we are able to support local people.”

The challenge is to walk, run, skip or dance 5 kilometers and you can complete the challenge around the home, in your garden, or outside as part of a daily exercise routine. How you choose to complete it is entirely up to you. You can do the challenge in one go or over several days or even weeks. There’s only one rule and that’s to dress up in your MOST colourful attire, the more flamboyant the better, and complete the challenge by the end of July.

As an inclusive event that anyone can join in. The beauty of the Virtual Colour5K is that it’s suitable for any age or ability and is completely free to enter. All Headway Essex is asking for is a donation to take part. Anyone raising over £25 as part of their fundraising efforts, will receive a stunning Colour5k medal for their efforts!

Tracy Wellsted, Headway Essex’s Fundraising Manager says; “It’s still a difficult time right now, yet as people find solace in exercise, we’re hoping the Virtual Colour5K will be a fun activity to focus on. It’ll give children and adults alike a unique challenge and way of supporting a great local charity. We need as much support as possible so please sign up – dig out your funky leggings and colourful headband from the bottom of your drawers and get involved!”

Money raised from the event will go towards providing rehabilitation and support for brain injury survivors and their families and carers in Essex.

Like many other charities, the coronavirus outbreak is already having a huge impact on Headway Essex’s finances. They have lost fundraising income from cancelled events and they will continue to lose income whilst they are unable to open their day centres and the Coronavirus restrictions limit their fundraising capability.
