Attwells Solicitors have pledged to support Age UK Suffolk during the 12 weeks self-isolation

Attwells solicitors have partnered with the local charity Age UK Suffolk to donate 20% of their legal fees for remote will writing services and for preparing LPAs. The remote services will benefit many people concerned about their affairs and offer them peace of mind during this unsettling time.

The announcement has come when other businesses in Ipswich are forced to halt operations, furloughing their employees on the governments 80/20 Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. However due to Attwells structure, leadership and diversity of services they have been able to continue working whilst protecting staff and clients who are self-isolating. Attwells resilience has been particularly beneficial to local businesses seeking employment or business advice as they struggle with the impact the coronavirus is having on their company.

Likewise, Age UK Suffolk have seen an increase in demand with a 40% increase in calls to Information & Advice and Befriending services for elderly people since the outbreak began.   The outbreak has also resulted in more elderly people requiring food deliveries and general welfare calls.  The surge is likely to continue as the weeks of self-isolation continue however, a significant amount of Age UK Suffolk’s funding derives from local business and fundraising events which have all ceased since the outbreak, such as the popular ROC24 and Platinum Conference events.

The charity desperately requires support to continue their vital work in the Suffolk community. Jo Reeder, Head of Fundraising & Marketing explains: This is a difficult time for all, but by nature of the people we support, we are seeing a significant increase in need, alongside a huge decrease of income.  We have launched an emergency fundraising appeal “Good Day Calls” to go some way to meeting the estimated shortfall of £33,000 each month during this crisis.  That is why the support of local businesses at this time, is still so important and we are so grateful of this”.
