Heroic service advisor saves the life of colleague at Colchester car dealership
3/12/2019 - Glyn Hopkin
Emma Upton, a Service Advisor at Glyn Hopkin Honda in Colchester, recently provided life-saving support to a colleague who could otherwise have lost his life. Her quick thinking and actions at the dealership helped prevent serious harm coming to the vehicle technician following an incident that took place on 7 November 2019.
Ms Upton, a resident from Long Melford, came to the rescue after her colleague hit his back on a toolbox in the workshop. The shock caused the technician’s blood pressure to spike, making him pass out. He subsequently swallowed his tongue, causing convulsions and blockage of his airway. Emma reacted quickly by clearing the obstruction and putting the technician into the recovery position, which contributed directly to a rapid and complete recovery.
“It all happened so quickly,” commented Emma. “I’m aware of the basics of first aid and knew that I needed to act before things deteriorated. I did what I could and luckily happened to be in the right place at the right time. I am just glad that I was there and could help.”
Mark Goddard, Service Director at Glyn Hopkin, added, “This was a frightening incident for everyone involved and, luckily for her colleague, Emma’s quick thinking and focus helped avoid lasting harm. We are all very grateful to her, and proud to have a true life-saver on the team.”
