Last Chance to Access Get Into Health & Social Care Programme

Just six places remain on an exciting new programme for 16–30-year-olds in the Braintree area to gain an insight into a career in health and social care.

Run by Essex-based health and social care organisation Provide Community in partnership with the Prince’s Trust, the six-week Get Into programme aims to give young people training and practical experience as an introduction to the wide range of opportunities available in the sector.

Launch with a taster day on 26 September, the programme is open to anyone aged 16-plus not in employment or education or working less than 16 hours a week. A series of sessions running over six weeks at Braintree Community Hospital will cover everything from life support and manual handling to interview skills. The programme will include hands-on NHS experience shadowing workers at the hospital, highlighting the wide range of career options available.

Lorraine Pendleton, volunteer coordinator at Provide Community says, “This is an exciting opportunity for anyone considering career options in health and social care. Focusing on our supported living provision, there will be a choice of hospital-based work experience covering everything from care to administration and care technician roles.

“In addition, every person will gain core employability skills over six weeks, based in the hospital and out in the field. On completion we will be inviting candidates to join our Workforce Solutions portal to access a wide range of job opportunities with Provide Community across the region.

“Get Into is a few hours a week for six weeks that could potentially shape your future career.”

The programme is free to attend, and participants will have travel reimbursed, with additional support available for lunch and childcare costs. No previous qualifications or experience are necessary, and participant will receive a further six months mentoring from The Prince’s Trust.

Narretta Bala, Youth Development Lead at The Prince’s Trust says, “The Get Into programme is for young people who want to get into work but may not have qualifications or relevant work experience. Alongside gaining knowledge and practical experience, it’s an opportunity for people to gain a unique insight and see if it’s the right career path for them.”

The six-week Get Into Health and Social Care programme with Provide Community starts with a taster day on Monday, 26 September 2022. To find out more, email narretta.bala@princes-trust.org.uk or call 0787 3601974
