Chelmer Wanderers support Stonewall’s ‘Rainbow Laces 2019’ initiative

On Sunday 24th November Chelmer Wanderers will be taking part in Stonewall’s ‘Rainbow Laces 2019’ initiative to ‘make football everyone’s game’. The campaign, supported by the FA, aims to promote inclusion for all in sport and has inspired over seven million people to feel more positive about LGBT involvement in football.

“We passionately believe everyone should have the opportunity to be involved in football and feel safe and comfortable when they do” says Mark Bullingham, FA Chief Executive.

According to Stonewall “The combined efforts of grassroots clubs and leagues continue to generate awareness of homophobia, transphobia and biphobia abuse/concerns, which sadly still takes place. However, while we’ve positively changed people’s attitudes, we need to go further to encourage people to be active allies to LGBT+ people and make football For All”.

“We are very proud to be a part of this initiative” says Phil Dabbs, Wanderers chairman, “As a club we consider ourselves to be inclusive and taking part in the Rainbow Laces is a way that we can demonstrate that and show our support”.

Further information about the Rainbow Laces can be found on the Stonewall website.
